Straumann BLX dental implant system

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a permanent solution used to replace missing tooth roots. It is a small titanium screw placed directly into the jawbone where a tooth has been lost. Once healed, a custom-made artificial tooth (crown or bridge) is securely attached on top to perfectly replace the missing natural tooth.

Most dental implants are crafted from medical-grade titanium due to its exceptional biocompatibility, allowing it to fuse seamlessly with human bone. This provides robust support for crowns, bridges, or dentures, restoring your natural chewing power and smile efficiently.

Components of a Dental Implant
01
Implant Body or Fixture
The screw-like titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone. It acts as an artificial root that fuses with the bone.
02
Implant Abutment
The connector piece placed on top of the implant body. Made of titanium or ceramic, it serves to support and hold the prosthetic tooth.
03
Prosthetic Component (Crown/Bridge/Denture)
The visible part of the tooth replacement, such as a crown, bridge, or removable denture. It is securely fastened to the abutment using dental cement or screws.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Provides the closest look, feel, and function to natural teeth.
Prevents adjacent teeth from shifting or tilting into missing spaces.
Boosts self-confidence for those experiencing tooth loss.
Restores normal speech and efficient chewing abilities.
Improves and maintains overall long-term oral health.
Highly durable and permanent, offering a lifelong solution with proper care.

Disadvantages and Considerations

Higher initial cost compared to traditional dentures.
Not recommended for individuals under 18 years old. This is because the jawbone has not yet fully developed.
Requires a longer treatment timeframe. In some complex cases requiring bone grafting, the entire process can take up to a year.
